I think Hispanic Heritage Month is a great way to promote the multiculturality here at RIT.
Coming here from Peru was a completely different experience. It’s not the same as being home. Food, customs–everything is a change. For example, holidays are different here. At home we have Purple Month (El Mes Morado) so it’s like having this part of me that isn’t here. So this is part of my personal history.
It’s my second year here, but it’s still a transition, yet I still have been able to find a community here. I have met other Spanish speakers–like from my first year, one of my friends who lived across the hall from me is from Mexico. But I’m able to make other friends here and keep in touch with friends from home.
