With Spring in full swing, our team here at RIT Behind the Bricks has compiled a list of clothing essentials that everyone here at Rochester Institute of Technology should have in their closet! Check it out!
This may be an obvious essential, but that’s why we decided to put it first on our list. It’s not fun when you’re sitting in class during the transition between seasons and you keep going from hot to cold. Stuffing a sweatshirt in your backpack will prevent this issue. It also doubles as a pillow (if necessary). Barnes and Noble located in Park Point has plenty of RIT gear available. Check them out here.
This is a piece that everybody probably already has in their wardrobe, but hey, jeans are a necessity. Whether you want to dress them up or dress them down, you can’t go wrong with denim. If you are in the market for a new pair, but don’t want to break the budget, checking out one of Henrietta’s multiple thrift stores is always a good option. Set some time aside on an afternoon, because you may have to do some digging. Once you find a staple pair of jeans to add to your spring wardrobe, the digging will have been worth it!
The keys to surviving in Rochester are layers (and plenty of them). You never know when the weather will take an unexpected turn for the worse. You may be walking to class enjoying the sunshine, and a few moments later you may be shivering in the snow or rain. Denim jackets are a staple piece for any wardrobe, and they complement any outfit. The best place to find jean jackets would be any of the local thrift stores here in Henrietta. Savers, Amvets, and Salvation Army are a very short drive from campus. It may take some digging, but you will more than likely find the perfect jacket for under $10!
As mentioned previously, layers are a must. Rochester Institute of Technology’s campus is filled with wind tunnels, so having a wind breaker in your wardrobe is a necessity (year round). Barnes and Noble located in Park Point is stocked with various wind breakers of multiple colors and styles. Whether you like a fitted pull over, or a loose zip up, B&N has you covered (literally). The store is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. You can also check out their available outerwear here.
Now that the winter snow has (hopefully) ended, it’s time to put away your winter hat, and substitute it for a new baseball cap. With no need to keep your ears warm anymore, having a baseball bat in your spring wardrobe is essential. It’s perfect for those days when your hair isn’t looking the way you intended it to, or if you‘re trying to make an outfit feel a bit more casual. Whether you are a fan of Nike caps, or simple RIT letters, there’s something available for everyone.
